House drains are designed to direct wastewater to the septic system for further treatment. Because hot grease is in liquid form, you might be tempted to pour it down the sink after cooking. Once the grease cools, however, it hardens along the drain’s interior lining. Other particles can stick to the gummy residue, causing obstructions. To avoid the need for constant drain cleaning, let grease harden on cookware and then scrape it into a trash bag for disposal. 

Once you are done flossing, don’t flush the waxy string down the toilet. As the synthetic fiber doesn’t decompose, it can wrap around toilet paper, human waste, tampons, and anything else in the drain pipes. The clogs can grow, eventually getting lodged in other parts of the plumbing system.
